Two of Australia’s most exciting young composers, award-winning singer-songwriter Jack Carty and former Papa vs. Pretty bassist Gus Gardiner will embark on a much-anticipated Australian tour with string quartet this June-July, in support of their brand new collaborative album HOSPITAL HILL – due for worldwide release June 1.

Sweeping, intricate, moving and beautiful – recorded live, in complete takes, over two days in a Sydney studio – the ten-song collection, co-written and produced by the duo, is a reflection of their individual and combined skills, magnified throughout by a stellar string quartet that included members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

The Australian tour comes hot on the heels of a massive album-launch run across the UK, and see’s the pair travel their ensemble to beautiful venues across the country; from Brisbane’s Old Museum to the Fremantle Arts Centre.

Thematically, Hospital Hill explores the pull of nostalgia, the weight of time and the release of gratitude, delivered with the trademark honesty that has won Carty a dedicated following from Hobart to Hamburg. He explains:

“I’ve been thinking a lot about home these past few years, specifically the small town I grew up in. I’d been so focused on getting away for so long that it came as a surprise to notice it was still with me wherever I went. It was comforting, too.”

Across the album, Gardiner’s clever string arrangements are perfection – lifting, colouring and embodying the waves of Carty’s expansive voice. It’s a coming together of poetry and playfulness, of vulnerability and cinematicity, of intricacy and intimacy.

Don’t miss this chance to see Jack Carty & Gus Gardiner perform HOSPITAL HILL live with their string quartet across Australia this winter!
